Thanks to the Bicycle Transportation Alliance blog out of Oregon, comes this news about how the German city of Munich increases transit use by mailing a welcome packet to new residents with information about transit, biking, walking and transportation. According to the blog, Munich sends out 85,000 of these Neuburgerpakets (translated as New Citizen Packages) every year.
It looks like the state government, local chamber of commerce, local utility and municipal bank all got together to fund Munich’s website as a mobility portal, including the Neuburgerpaket. Transit agencies should look to partner with municipal governments and business associations to get transit information into the hands of new residents.
