From the Detroit Free Press comes a feature story on Dennis Green, the Marketing Manager of the Detroit Transportation Corporation who, from the looks of their site, is doing a fantastic job recruiting community partners and cultivating a sense of ownership over the transit network. Here are the good questions:

Q: What do you do for the People Mover?

A: I have three missions here: to sell advertising on the People Mover; to buy ads and do the PR to generate interest in the People Mover, and to be a missionary for downtown — the exciting things to do and places to go that people aren’t aware of. Downtown transit is fun, fast, safe — and there’s a great view.

Q: Fun, fast, safe?

A: We’ve had a fashion show, speed-dating, pub crawls, a poker game on the trains. On July 27, we’ll have celebrity impersonators; on 4th Fridays and Labor Day we’ll have live music at the stations.

A poker game!

That’s a low-cost, creative way to recruit new evangelists who will create buzz about the transit network and, in turn, recruit new riders.
