ABC News has this great report (triggered by the Obama Administration’s savvy announcement of the 2000th transportation project approved with stimulus money last week) on how the purchase of hybrid buses by Santa Monica, California saves dozens and dozens of private sector manufacturing jobs across the nation. If you are part of a public transportation agency and you are receiving stimulus funds (and if the answer to the first question is yes, then the answer to second question is yes), tell the story to the media!
This is a big success in federal policy, and we have to let people know about the success, especially if we want President Obama and Congress to continue to invest in public transportation. Voters need to understand that their money is getting invested wisely, so that political support for the next investment (like, the surface transportation reauthorization this year) grows along with our economy.
