We noticed that lots of transit agencies (as well as advocacy organizations) need to stay in touch with opinion leaders, elected officials and riders but often find that other priorities or tasks crowd out the need to continue a conversation with the community.
We found that leaders of agencies and organizations agree with us that it is crucial to engage voters and political leaders with the value that transit brings — saving lives, reducing our oil addiction, growing the local economy, reducing asthma — but somehow aren’t sure exactly how to make that conversation happen.
That’s when we decided to launch our latest product: a monthly electronic newsletter.

One weapon in this arsenal is a monthly electronic newsletter. And now, we’ll provide all the technical and design needs for clients who want a high-quality, top-notch newsletter delivered to the inboxes (and not the spam folders) of all of their political officials, opinion leaders and riders every month.
We believe that lots of agencies want to issue a monthly electronic newsletter but they aren’t sure how to do it. And we know (after reviewing just about every agency website this month to see who actually is distributing an electronic newsletter) that many agencies and organizations can improve their newsletters quite a bit. (Here’s a hint: just putting a pdf on your website doesn’t count).
The way we earn more political support for transit is by repeating and refining our story, patiently and persistently, until it becomes conventional wisdom. And the most effective way to do that is with a monthly electronic newsletter.
This is the best way to stay in touch with riders and to generate the word-of-mouth marketing that we rely on — all they have to do is forward the email to a friend. It’s also the best way to let riders know about upcoming hearing, schedule changes and ask them for their input in planning. Finally, it’s a great way to stay fresh in the minds of elected officials and their staff so they know all the good things the agency is doing so they’ll want to continue to support the agency in the budget.
If you want to be one of our first clients with a monthly electronic newsletter, email me at Dan@PermanentCampaigns.com and we’ll get you set up this week. In fact, the first three clients that respond to this blog post will get 20% off their first year of service. Just reference this blog post in your email.
We’ve written up a frequently asked questions page about this new service and we’re very excited about launching our first product to directly improve transit communication. As we learn more about the needs of agencies to improve their communication, we’ll roll out the next product or service (besides our fantastic consulting advice) to meet those needs.
