The federal stimulus is coming and billions will be flowing to transit agencies.
Are you ready?
One of the conditions of the funding will be a requirement to spend it quickly in order to stimulate the economy. For non-rail agencies, there is only so much capital spending to do: bus manufacturers are swamped and the delivery time for a bus order placed today is probably four years away.
Do you have a communications project in your stimulus plan?
Federal regulations permit the use of capital dollars for long-term communications projects such as a revamped website, a system-wide schedule and marketing website like our work with Catch An Illinois Train or route marketing like our work with Go Green Every 15.
The benefit of these communications capital investments is that they help your operating budget by generating more riders and more revenue instead of only committing the agency to more service that can put a strain on operating budgets.
While you are putting together your stimulus plan, consider including an upgrade of your communications infrastructure as well. And when you do so, consider working with us, particularly on a route marketing project.
